Buttock Lift
Sometimes the terminiology of reshaping the buttock is confusing. A Buttock Lift in our practice means the same as a Buttock Augmentation--reshaping and enhancing the buttocks. The buttock can be augmented with implants or with fat transfer. Dr Schwarz does not perform buttock augmentation with implants, but chooses to re-shape the gluteal area by transferring your own fat. The grafted fat provides longterm results without the complications associated with buttock implants.
Commonly referred to as the Brazilian Butt Lift, fat transfer to the buttocks produces a beautiful, natural looking, full buttock. Where does the fat come from? Typically patients will have fatty deposits in the stomach, flanks (love handles), saddle bags, inner thighs, and/or back which is suitable for grafting. The fat is collected by means of liposuction so all of the areas where fat is harvested look better as well! Essentially we are removing fat from otherwise unwanted areas, and using this fat to augment and fill the buttock to give you a better buttock while at the same time improving your overall body contour.
The fat is removed with liposuction, prepared, and then is injected with micro-canulas so small droplets of fat will gain new blood supply and survive in their new location. Some of the fat is injected deeply into to gluteus muscle and other fat is injected more superficially.
Initially there is some swelling, and not all of the fat injected will survive so patients will usually wait about 3 months to see the final result. The typical amount of fat injected is usually on average 500 cc per side which produces a natural, full, curvaceous buttock. Greater volumes can be used if available and required.
It is important to realize this is not all about size; we are not about just getting a bigger buttock, but our focus is to ensure a better looking buttock. Just like in breast augmentation where the focus is not just size, but on obtaining a pretty and full breast the same is true in the buttock. While most patients seek buttock augmentation for a larger buttock, our patients finish with a larger and fuller buttock but one that has a pretty, curvaceous and attractive appearance.
Recovery from buttock augmentation is typical for recovery from liposuction. We ask you to wear a compression garment for at least 2 weeks and refrain from sitting for 2 weeks. There are no other restrictions on your activity in terms of exercise or carrying out your usually daily activities. You can exercise as soon as you feel up to it which is usually in a few days. The bruising and swelling in the areas of liposuction will last for a couple of weeks.
Fat transfer to the buttock is extremely rewarding for patient and physician alike as otherwise discarded fat from liposuction is used to the patient's benefit.
